Tacet Player for Android Privacy Policy
Effective October 26, 2026
TACET LIFE, LLC (“we”, “us”) publishes Tacet Player for Android on Google Play. This policy explains how the app handles information on your Android device, and what happens to anything you send us.
Our approach
TACET LIFE, LLC designs Tacet Player to collect as little personal information as practical. The Android app collects none.
- Tacet Player is a score reader, setlist organizer and practice tool that works on your device. You don’t need a Tacet account or a sign-in.
- Your charts, recordings, separated parts, annotations, notes and settings stay in the app’s private storage on your device. We never receive them.
- The app has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. We don’t sell personal information or track you across apps or websites.
- The app makes no internet connections of its own. Links to our website open in your browser.
- Your information leaves your device only when you choose: when you export, back up or share it to a place you pick, or when you move to a new device with Android’s device transfer.
Scope
This policy covers the Tacet Player app for Android that TACET LIFE, LLC distributes through Google Play, and emails you send us about it.
Tacet Player for iPad and Mac are covered by the Tacet Player for Apple Devices Privacy Policy, and our website by the Website Privacy Policy. Android, Google Play and Android System WebView, the component that displays the app’s screens, are provided by Google under Google’s own terms and privacy policy.
Information kept on your device
Depending on the features you use, the app keeps the following in its private storage on your device:
- charts you import (PDF files), with their file names and titles;
- audio files you import, recordings you save in the app (practice takes and voice memos), and the separated parts that Unmix creates from your audio;
- your library: shows, setlists, songs, folders, chart and page settings, annotations and ink, typed notes, loops and markers, mix levels, what you last played, and the Trash;
- your settings, such as theme, language, page turning and audio preferences. If you set up a MIDI pedal or controller, the app keeps a one-way fingerprint of the device so that it can recognize it again (never its Bluetooth address), and the device’s name for controls you teach it;
- recent recovery copies of your library’s index, which protect your library if the app stops unexpectedly;
- temporary files used while importing, saving, exporting or sharing.
Files reach the app only when you choose them in Android’s file picker, open them in Tacet Player from another app, or save a recording. The app keeps its own copy and never changes your original files.
If you restore a backup made on another device, such as an iPad, your library may include Apple Music song references: identifiers, titles, artist and album names, and artwork addresses. The Android app keeps them as part of your library but doesn’t contact Apple Music.
On-device processing
Reading and marking up charts, playback, speed and pitch changes, the metronome, the tuner, the piano and Unmix all run on your device. Unmix separates your audio into parts using models built into the app. Nothing is uploaded for processing, and the app downloads no models or other components.
While Unmix is separating a song or a backup is being restored, the app keeps the device awake and shows the job’s progress in a notification (if you allow notifications), so that the work can finish while you use other apps.
Permissions
Tacet Player asks for a permission only when you use a feature that needs it. You can decline, or change your choice later in Android Settings → Apps → Tacet Player → Permissions. Features that don’t need the permission keep working.
- Microphone. Asked the first time you use a feature that listens: recording a take or a voice memo, the tuner, or Allow microphone in Settings → Audio. Microphone sound is processed on your device. Nothing is kept unless you save a recording, and nothing is sent to us.
- Nearby devices (Android 12 and later) or Location (Android 8 to 11). Asked only when you choose to connect a Bluetooth MIDI device, because Android requires one of these permissions before an app can scan for Bluetooth devices. The app scans only for Bluetooth MIDI devices and shows their names so that you can pick one. It never uses your location, and on Android 12 and later it tells Android that it doesn’t derive location from the scan.
- Notifications (Android 13 and later). Asked once, the first time you start Unmix, so that the app can show its progress. Unmix and restores still run if you decline.
- Granted at installation. Android also lets the app keep the device awake, run foreground services for Unmix and restores, adjust audio settings for playback, use Bluetooth (Android 11 and earlier), and access the network and network status. This version of the app makes no internet connections of its own.
Links, email, and Google
Links. Links in the app, such as Website, Privacy and Contact in About, open in your browser. Our website is covered by the Website Privacy Policy.
Email to us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use them to answer you, to support and protect the service, and to improve Tacet, and we keep them only as long as reasonably needed. Please don’t send charts, recordings or backups unless we need them to help you. The Website Privacy Policy describes the service providers that handle our email.
Google. Google Play and Android System WebView are Google services. If you’ve chosen to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Google may receive crash reports from Android System WebView while you use the app, and Google Play may give us crash and performance reports about the app (Android vitals). Google Play also gives us aggregate statistics, such as install counts by country and device type. Tacet Player turns off WebView usage statistics, and we add no analytics of our own. Google handles this information under the Google Privacy Policy.
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Android backup and device transfer
Tacet Player turns off Android’s cloud backup (Google Drive backup) for its data. On some devices running Android 12 or later, Android’s device-to-device transfer can still copy an app’s data straight to a new device when you set it up. Tacet Player allows this, so your library can move with you to your new device. Temporary files, such as copies made for sharing, are not transferred, and the transfer never reaches us.
To keep a copy under your own control, use Export backup in Settings → Library & Storage.
Retention and deletion
- Your information stays on your device until you delete it. We don’t hold a copy of your library, so we can’t recover it or delete it for you.
- Items you delete go to the Trash (Settings → Library & Storage → Trash). They stay there until you put them back or delete them for good, or until the Trash is emptied automatically if you turn that on: Delete trash can be set to after 1 day, 1 week or 1 month, and is set to Never unless you change it.
- Deleting a chart for good deletes its file from your device, unless another item in your library still uses it. A chart added since the app last started can be deleted for good once the app has restarted.
- In this version, songs you import from a file or another app, and recordings you save, can’t yet be deleted for good. When you try, the app says the item couldn’t be deleted and keeps it in the Trash, and its audio file stays in the app’s storage until you clear the app’s storage in Android Settings or uninstall the app.
- Separated parts you remove in Settings → Library & Storage → Stored parts, or whose song you delete for good, are deleted from your device automatically a little later, as you keep using the app.
- The app keeps only the most recent few recovery copies of your library’s index, and deletes older ones as it saves your changes.
- A copy made for sharing stays in the app’s cache so that the app you shared with can read it. The next time you share, the app deletes older copies and keeps the most recent one only if it is less than a day old. Android may also clear the cache when storage runs low.
- To remove everything the app stores at once, use Android Settings → Apps → Tacet Player → Storage → Clear storage, or uninstall the app.
- Files you exported, backed up or shared, and data moved to another device, are outside the app. Delete them where you saved or sent them.
- To have us delete emails you sent us, write to info@tacetlife.com.
Security
The app keeps its data in Android’s private app storage, which other apps can’t read. When you share a file, Android’s controlled file sharing gives only the app you pick temporary access to that copy. The app’s screens run in a WebView limited to the app’s own built-in content: it can’t open web pages, read files directly from your device or use unencrypted connections.
No method of storage or transfer is completely secure. Protect your device with a screen lock, and share files only with people you trust.
Children
Tacet Player is a music reading and practice app that anyone can use. It doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, children included: there’s no account, no advertising and no analytics, and everything you create stays on your device. If a child has emailed us, a parent or guardian can ask us to delete that message at info@tacetlife.com.
Your choices and privacy rights
You can change the app’s permissions at any time in Android Settings, and delete your information as described above.
Depending on where you live, privacy law may give you rights to access, correct or delete personal information, or to restrict its use. Because the app collects no personal information and we hold no copy of your library, the only information we may hold about you is what you send us by email. To ask about, correct or delete it, email info@tacetlife.com. We may need to verify a request before acting on it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app’s features, the services it uses, legal requirements or our practices change. We’ll post the revised policy at https://tacetlife.com/player/android/privacy with a new effective date, and give notice of material changes where required.
